College Conference @ Montreat

Several members of our UKirk Birmingham community attended the annual College Conference at Montreat in the mountains of western North Carolina January 2-5. Our time was filled with laugher around a fire, provocative workshops, beautiful worship, and inspiring keynoters (give Rick Ufford-Chase and Rev. Becca Stevens a google)! Below are some thoughts shared from some of our students:

My experience with Montreat this past week really helped to bring me closer to the UKirk Birmingham group, but it also made me aware of issues that exist in the world that we as Christians have a calling and a responsibility to care and do something about. – Julie, senior at Birmingham-Southern College

Montreat College Conference gave me the opportunity to learn from inspirational people, have meaningful conversations, and challenged me to seek out opportunities to stand up and speak out against injustices in my community. I left feeling deeply connected to God and her people! – Emily, UAB graduate student

I’d have to say experiencing Montreat with UKirk Birmingham fostered a deep sense of community that I didn’t think possible, both with people I had known for a while and people who I just met. I haven’t had an experience like it in a while, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! – Liam, junior at UAB
